A wave of bombings across Iraq - including 10 locations in Baghdad - has killed 83 people and wounded nearly 300, Iraqi police say.Many of the dead in the Iraqi capital were Shia pilgrims gathering for a religious festival.In Hilla, two car bombs exploded near a restaurant, killing at least 21 people.There has been a wave of attacks on the Shia community in recent days, as it marks the anniversary of the death of Shia imam Moussa al-Kadhim.
The Syrian government says its forces have taken control of the western mountain town of Haffa, after fierce fighting with rebels who had held it.Officials said Haffa had been "purged of terrorists" and calm restored.Both sides have predicted a massacre in Haffa. UN monitors tried to visit the town on Tuesday, but had to turn back after they were shot at.Meanwhile both sides have rejected a description of the conflict as a civil war, in remarks by a UN official.The Syrian government insists it is fighting terror groups and rebels say they are defending a peaceful uprising.On Wednesday, the rebel Free Syrian Army said it had pulled its fighters out of Haffa and nearby villages to spare the residents from further massive bombardments.
The full list of submissions for new internet address endings has been published by the organisation co-ordinating the expansion.Applicants include the BBC, which has applied for .bbc as an alternative to .co.uk and .com.Others include .scot by Dot Scot Registry, .wales by Nominet and .arab by the League of Arab States.Several top-level domains have been applied for by more than one party, including .film and .garden.Both US drugmaker Merck & Co and its German rival Merck KGaA appear to have applied for the .merck ending, which may trigger an auction process.Samsung - which had objected to the process - has taken part, applying for both .samsung and its equivalent in the Korean alphabet.
Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk says his squad are feeling the pressure ahead of their crucial Euro 2012 Group B clash with Germany.
The Dutch, who lost their opening game to Denmark, could go out if they are beaten by their arch rivals in Kharkiv.
"Of course things are tense when we lose and we get irritated at times," said Van Marwijk.
"But that is where we are going to draw our motivation from. I believe in my players."
